The Joyous Sounds Of Christmas: Johnny Largo at the Optigan This CD contains all of the known promotional recordings that Mattel produced for the Optigan. Basically there were two different cassettes that were distributed at different times: one containing 1/2 hour of Christmas standards, and one containing a 15 minute "tour" of the Optigan, featuring voiceover work by Mike LeDoux. For anyone who is interested in hearing how the Optigan sounded in the best of all possible circumstances, this CD is a must. Johnny's arrangements and performances are remarkable!

A specially customized Optigan was used for the recordings which minimized hum and buzz, but this CD proves once and for all that the Optigan, even at it's very best, was still an incredibly noisy and lo-fi instrument!! Bottom line: I don't want to hear any more complaints about scratchy discs!! ;)

Optigan / Orchestron / Talentmaker The Optical Organ Toolkit Expanded & Re-Launched at a New Lower Price! $99, postpaid worldwide** With this new expanded edition of the definitive Optigan sample set, you will get not only a copy of the original Akai format CD-Rom (complete with colorful and informative liner notes booklet), but also you will get a supplemental CD-R containing: - All the samples from the original CD-Rom in .wav format (suitable for use in loop-based software such as Sony Acid or Apple Garageband) - All the original programs re-done in Native Instruments Kontakt format (widely importable to other software samplers) - Additional sample sets covering all known released revisions of each Optigan disc that had them. Some early discs were released in 2 or 3 different versions over time, featuring different drum loops, etc. Often these differences were subtle, but hey, I'm a completist, so shoot me! :) - A bonus handful of sample sets made from prototype Optigan and Talentmaker discs that were never released to the public - An extra-special bonus sample set of drum loops from my Chamberlin Rhythmate tape-replay drum machine! I know, technically not an optical-disc based instrument, but hey- Optigan bought out the patents for this machine, so it's more or less in the family... - Scans of various catalogs/brochures for all three instruments, and liner notes from the jacket of each Optigan disc - And coming soon! A software Optigan emulation that allows you to play these loops just like they work on a real Optigan! This will be made available as a free download as soon as it's ready. We'll also be posting a tutorial on how to convert an Optigan into a midi controller for this software. Rather, the chord loops and keyboard scales are set up in separate programs, which provide everything you need to re-create the classic sound of these instruments in a recording environment. Of course, the sample sets can be used in a live performance situation, it's just that they can't act exactly like a real Optigan/Talentmaker would. (For that purpose we'll soon be offering a software Optigan emulation- watch this space for details!) Also included is a booklet of detailed liner notes outlining a brief history of the instruments, technical notes on the samples themselves, and performance tips.
